Have you been seeing Woodchucks throughout your yard all summer long? Are you feeling blessed that summer is over, and the woodchucks don’t seem to be around as much, well not so fast. Just because you are seeing them less frequently doesn’t mean they are gone forever. As the cooler weather begins to set in you will see Woodchucks less frequently, but that’s only because they will become less active and stay in one of the many burrows they have created on your property.
What does that mean to you? Well, keep in mind, typically a Woodchuck will have 1 to 4 burrows throughout their territory, but they will only reside in one of them during the cooler months, when they slow down and eventually hibernate. The other holes may be utilized by other wildlife. Wildlife always attracts additional wildlife. If a competitor smells a fellow competitor they will be lured to the potential for food, water and or shelter. Who will you most likely see? Raccoons, skunks, foxes, opossums and other woodchucks. In fact, in some instances, woodchucks will co-domicile with skunks and a few other animals.
In addition, by allowing the nuisance wildlife to exist on your property through the winter months will raise the likelihood that they will bear and raise their offspring there as well. Which means you have now multiplied your problem for next season.
What do we recommend to get rid of woodchucks? We recommend that you trap and remove the animal immediately and seal the holes/burrows. Wildlife Busters prides itself on preventative maintenance. What we have learned over the years is that a nuisance wildlife issue that has created a comfortable habitat on your residential or commercial property is not going away anytime soon. It’s silly to think by completely ignoring the situation that the wildlife would just go away. Again, keep in mind they have only three main objectives in their life, food, shelter and to pro-create. If they are achieving anyone of those, they have no incentive to move on. They will continue to stay until their objectives are no longer obtainable.
