Insurance Companies Will Pick up the Tab
More and more we are seeing insurance companies picking up the tab for a nuisance wildlife decontamination and sanitization service. Most clients are unaware and don’t even pick up the phone and contact their homeowner policy representative. Well, we are here to tell you they will pay and it’s all in the presentation of facts and the resolution provided. Here at Wildlife BustersÒ we understand that not all clients are well equipped to communicate with their insurance company. That’s why as an extension of our service, we will work with your insurance representative to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the health and liability issues associated with the contaminated area. In addition, we will provide a full-scale proposal detailing how our service will resolve the issue, permanently.
At this point, you might be asking yourself, health and liability issues, what health and liability issues. Each nuisance wildlife infestation carries it’s own series of health and liability issues. I will outline a few common infestation issues that we encounter:
Raccoon Infestation – Small Commercial Office Building: Raccoons living in the ceiling, above the tiles. Within raccoon dens they create areas that are defined as their urinals. In that area they will also defecate. Raccoon feces contains the eggs of a parasite called raccoon round worm. People may encounter the eggs through touching a contaminated area or object. If they don’t wash their hands they may later transfer the eggs to their mouths. Small children are particularly vulnerable because they tend to put their hands and other objects into their mouths. You may also become infected by breathing in the raccoon roundworm eggs. If you have children, elderly or have a commercial property that may contain clients who have that population you have a serious liability on your hand.
Bird or Bat Infestation – Country Residential Vacation Rental. Bird and bat roosts are incubators for a fungus called Histoplasmosis. Histoplasmosis is a lung infection caused by inhaling the spores of the fungus, Histoplasma Capsulatum. These spores are often found in old or abandoned bird or bat roosts, especially those in damp or moist areas, i.e. attic or basement area. Birds and bats do not carry this disease, but they are associated with it because their droppings enrich soil and promote the growth of the fungus. This is a severe health risk to your renters and a serious liability to you.
In several similar situations as discussed above we worked with the clients insurance company and we were able to have the majority of our fee covered.
